suncity

Sun City is an isometric city you can drive across — 384×384 cells, about sixty-five thousand pixels corner to corner, six districts and a coastline. None of it is authored. Every one of the ~8,600 buildings is composed at load out of a module set and then **measured**: seventeen pixel gates check that it stands on its footprint, that its storeys line up, that it has a roof, that the skyline it makes has variety in it. A city that fails is thrown away and rolled again.

Drive it, walk it, take somebody's car, get chased for it. Four factions argue over the map on a lattice of their own and the argument runs whether you are there or not — you find out whose corner you are standing on by looking at what the people on it are wearing, because there is no overlay. Each faction has a chain of work generated backwards from its goal, so it is solvable by construction.

**Multiplayer.** One machine hosts, the others join — from the in-game server browser, or by typing an address. The whole city is shared: the same cars go past you both, the same people are on the same corners, the same cruisers are chasing the same person. And you can ride in each other's cars — walk up to somebody's door,  press F, and they drive you.

The dedicated server

There is a **dedicated server** on this page as well as the game for a city that stays up when you go to bed. You do not need it to play together — any copy of the game can host — but a dedicated one has no player, no camera and no interface, never draws or even loads a building, and costs about 290 MB and one core. It announces itself to the server browser on its own.

suncity-server --server --port 27015 --name "my city"

Open UDP on that port. Sun City is ENet over UDP; there is no TCP port and nothing goes through a web proxy.
